Portugal | Monitoring Orienta4YEL strategies for tackling early leaving - Meeting with Portuguese local partners to address key-stage aspects of transitions

Venue: Online Event - Portugal

On April 28, 2021, occurred, online, a meeting with the secondary education establishments involved in the Orienta4YEL Project in the Portuguese context. The participants were 107 students and their teachers, all from secondary education establishments with Education and Training Courses/Professional Courses (ETC/PC) of the Leiria Region.

The main aim was to address key-stage aspects of transitions, providing students with information that supports students in planning their educational transitions and recognizing the significant changes that they may experience. The meeting included a presentation from the Polytechnic Institute of Leiria about existing training pathways and labour market trajectories available for students, curriculum areas, social support, facilities and settings. Testimonials from current higher education students and graduates provided examples and moments of reflection about the importance of developing a sense of ownership over their plans, hopes and aspirations. The meeting also provided opportunities to address young peoples’ sense of legacy at their secondary school and provide contact points, previously designated persons from the higher education institution, to further support individual students’ needs and interests at the receiving institution, and to reinforce their sense of educational, training and labour market progress and possible trajectories.

This action is part of the strategy to tackling ESL, designed within the framework of the Orienta4YEL Project for the Portuguese contexts.
